Heavy haulage and temporary storage logistics for a major road infrastructure project in Romania

The Poiana Tunnel, part of Section 3 Cornetu–Tigveni of the A1 Sibiu–Pitești Motorway, is being constructed using a Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM), a specialised system designed for large-scale underground excavation.

Eastship Projects & Logistics was involved in the project through the transport of TBM components from the Port of Constanța to Călărași, where the equipment was temporarily stored pending the preparation of the construction site for the next stage of delivery.

From port operations to temporary storage

Transporting oversized tunnelling equipment requires careful coordination between cargo handling, specialised road transport and storage arrangements. Each component must be assessed individually, taking into account its dimensions, weight and specific handling requirements.

For this project, Eastship coordinated the movement of the TBM components from the Port of Constanța to a temporary storage location in Călărași. This intermediate stage forms part of the project's logistics sequence, allowing the equipment to be received and held safely until the construction site is ready for delivery.

Logistics aligned with construction progress

The delivery of specialised equipment for major infrastructure projects must be aligned with site readiness and construction schedules. Temporary storage provides an intermediate logistics solution, helping coordinate the arrival of critical components with the requirements of the installation site.

The TBM components will be transported to the Poiana Tunnel construction site once the area is prepared to receive them.
