Behind every reliable power grid is a journey few people ever see.
Eastship Projects & Logistics recently transported a 250-tonne high voltage transformer over more than 600 kilometres, using a 26-axle modular trailer.
Moving equipment of this scale requires more than sufficient transport capacity. The entire operation is engineered around the cargo dimensions, axle loads, centre of gravity and route infrastructure.

Route Engineering for Heavy Transport
Before the movement begins, the route must be assessed in detail.
Bridge capacities, road geometry, turning radii, gradients, overhead clearances and critical infrastructure all influence the transport configuration and execution plan.
For a 250-tonne transformer, these constraints determine how the load can safely move through each section of the route.
26-Axle Modular Trailer Configuration
The transformer was carried on a 26-axle modular trailer, allowing the load to be distributed across multiple axle lines.
For abnormal loads, trailer configuration is closely linked to axle-load management, infrastructure limitations and cargo characteristics. The objective is not simply to carry the weight, but to develop a configuration compatible with the complete route.
Coordinated Execution
A movement of this scale involves multiple stages working together — route surveys, engineering assessments, permits, trailer configuration, load securing, escorts and transport execution.
Over more than 600 km, each stage has to remain aligned with the next.
The result is a transport operation that may be almost invisible to the public, but is essential to the infrastructure behind the power grid.
