HVT transport to Nuclear Power Plant

In 2022, Eastship Projects & Logistics successfully completed the transportation of two high voltage transformers for the Cernavodă Nuclear Power Plant, one of Romania's critical energy infrastructure facilities. The project involved the movement of heavy electrical equipment under a highly restrictive delivery schedule, requiring careful coordination, detailed engineering, and the integration of multiple transport modes.
With a delivery window of only three days, conventional transport methods would not have provided the required efficiency while maintaining the necessary safety standards. Following a comprehensive route analysis and logistics assessment, Eastship's engineering and operations teams developed an intermodal transport solution combining inland waterway transportation by barge with specialized heavy haul road transport.

The transformers were first transported by barge along the Danube, significantly reducing transit time and minimizing the impact on the national road network. Upon arrival in Cernavodă, the cargo was transferred onto specialized heavy transport equipment for the final road journey to the nuclear power plant. This multimodal logistics solution enabled the project to meet its strict deadline while ensuring the safe handling of the cargo throughout every stage of the operation.
Transporting high voltage transformers requires far more than moving oversized cargo from one location to another. Throughout the project, Eastship maintained strict adherence to all applicable health, safety, environmental, and quality (HSEQ) procedures. Every phase of the transportation process—from loading and securing the cargo to inland waterway transport, road transport, staging, and final unloading—was executed according to detailed operational procedures designed to protect both the cargo and the surrounding infrastructure.

The successful completion of the project demonstrated the advantages of combining multimodal transportation, heavy haul engineering, and experienced project management when delivering critical energy infrastructure components.
